Henna is a paste applied on the surface of the skin temporarily staining the top layers of skin in a desired design. Applications can be free hand or by stencil. Henna starts out wet but quickly dries and is left on the skin. Allow paste to dry. A light stain may be achieved within minutes, but the longer the paste is left on the skin, the darker and longer lasting the stain will be, so it needs to be left on as long as possible.
After 3-6 hrs. carefully scratch the paste off using your fingernails or the back of a butter knife or credit card. Be careful not to get the henna art wet for 24 hours so that the stain will last. Do not put lotion over the area.
Henna stains are orange when the paste is first removed, but darken over the following three days to a deep reddish brown due to oxidation. A Henna application can last 10-14 days.
